Dispatch is created and operated by data practitioners and engineers who are Black, Indigenous, and people of color.

Technology and data are often used to further oppress Black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color; but we can use technology and data to help free us.

At State Voices, we do this by making sure technology, tools, training, and resources are in the hands of people experiencing oppression in society. This includes events like our 2023 Hack-A-Thon.

In November 2023, State Voices partnered with MoveOn to host our first Hack-A-Thon to update code for Spoke, the open-source texting technology in Dispatch.

At our Hack-A-Thon, BIPOC data engineers from across the country came together to contribute their skills to advance civic engagement technology.
